The Distillers are an iconic punk band led by the inimitable Brody Dalle based in Los Angeles, CA. 2020 marked the 20 year anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut album and The Distillers wanted to discover new ways to ignite the conversation around this important event.
Additionally, they were also seeking ways to build additional revenue streams and stay engaged with loyal fans amidst a turbulent pandemic year where artist touring became non-existent.
Masscult conceived, designed and launched The Revenant, the first official fan community for The Distillers in the fall of 2020. The goal was to create a unique and welcoming environment for fans to interact, receive exclusive content, opportunities to enter contests and giveaways plus access to exclusive merch. Masscult built an interactive fan site that cohesively tied in with the band’s existing website and included various sections such as a forum, fan artwork and tattoo galleries, blog, and more. Archival content was creatively rereleased and new interviews were conducted with band members for fans to digest in an editorial, zine-style format.
The Masscult team mapped out key social media activities that enhanced the Instagram and Facebook channels for The Distillers; designing graphics, writing copy and executing posts that promoted membership kits, merch drops, and digital events. This included Halloween Special, a special ticketed acoustic set and Q+A exclusive to The Revenant fan club members only, a special event was highlighted in Rolling Stone. Additional services for The Revenant fan community included producing a photo shoot for the exclusive fan club merchandise kits that further helped boost online sales.
